Disconnect the Electrical Connector:
1. Locate the four-wheel-drive actuator on your Dodge pickup. It is usually attached to the front axle housing.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator. This will disable the actuator and prevent it from engaging the front axle.
Lock the Front Axle Housing:
3. Remove the bolts holding the front axle housing cover in place.
4. Once the cover is removed, you will see the differential assembly.
5. Locate the actuator rod that is connected to the differential assembly.
6. Use a pry bar or a screwdriver to pry the actuator rod out of the differential assembly. This will lock the front axle housing in the engaged position.
Reinstall the Front Axle Housing Cover:
7. Reinstall the front axle housing cover and tighten the bolts.
Shift the Transfer Case:
8. Shift the transfer case into the four-wheel-drive high or low range position.
Your Dodge pickup will now have its front axle locked in at all times, regardless of the position of the four-wheel-drive selector switch. You can shift out of the transfer case to disengage the four-wheel drive and the front axle will remain locked.
Important Notes:
- Be sure to follow the steps carefully to avoid damaging the four-wheel-drive system.
- This modification may affect the handling of your vehicle, so drive cautiously and be aware of the potential risks.
- Always test the four-wheel-drive system after making any modifications to ensure it is functioning properly.
- Bypassing the actuator in this manner can cause premature wear on the front axle components.
