How do you change an ignition switch on a 2008 dodge avenger?

To replace the ignition switch on a 2008 Dodge Avenger, you will need the following:

- Replacement ignition switch

- Torx T30 driver

- 5/16-inch socket wrench

- 3/16-inch socket wrench

- Allen wrench

- Flat-blade screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

Instructions

1. Disconnect the battery. To do this, use a 5/16-inch socket wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal bolt and remove the terminal from the battery.

2. Remove the steering column covers. There are two covers that need to be removed. The first is located on the bottom of the steering column and is held in place by two screws. The second is located on the top of the steering column and is held in place by three screws.

3. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Use an Allen wrench to insert it into the hole on the top of the steering lock and turn it to the “LOCK” position. Then use the flat-blade screwdriver to pry the ignition lock cylinder out of the steering column.

4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch. There are three electrical connectors that need to be disconnected. Do this by gently prying them apart with a flat-blade screwdriver or small knife.

5. Remove the ignition switch. Use a 3/16-inch socket wrench to loosen the two screws that hold the ignition switch in place. Then, remove the ignition switch from the steering column.

6. Install the new ignition switch. Place the new ignition switch into the steering column and secure it with the two screws that you removed in the previous step.

7. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the ignition switch.

8. Reinstall the ignition lock cylinder. Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the steering column and turn it to the “RUN” position. This will engage the lock cylinder and prevent it from falling out.

9. Reinstall the steering column covers.

10. Reconnect the battery.

Now the ignition switch on the 2008 Dodge Avenger should be successfully replaced.
