Locate the diagnostic connector: Open the hood of your Jeep and locate the diagnostic connector, usually referred to as the OBD-II port. It is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
Retrieve the codes: Once you have found the diagnostic connector, you can retrieve the check engine codes using one of the following methods:
Dashboard Diagnostic: Turn the key to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Press and hold the odometer reset button until "dOnE" appears on the odometer display. Release the button and wait for the check engine codes to be displayed.
Scan Tool: Connect a scan tool or OBD-II code reader to the diagnostic connector. Turn on the scan tool and follow the prompts to retrieve the check engine codes.
Write down the codes: Note down the check engine codes that are displayed. Each code consists of a series of five digits, starting with a letter followed by four numbers. For example, P0420 is a common check engine code.
Interpret the codes: Once you have the codes, you can research their meaning online or refer to a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) manual to understand the potential problems indicated by the codes.
Address the issue: Based on the information obtained from the check engine codes, you can troubleshoot and address the underlying issues with your vehicle.
