How do you change the front wheel bearings on a 2002 Chevy 3500 truck?

Tools You'll Need:

- Lug wrench

- Socket wrench

- Ratchet

- ½-inch drive

- 36 mm socket

- Flathead screwdriver

- Pry bar

- Hammer

- Jack

- Jack stands

- Grease gun

Instructions:

Step 1: Park the truck on a level surface.

Step 2: Loosen the lug nuts.

Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. Just loosen the lug nuts; don't remove them completely.

Step 3: Raise the truck with a jack.

Place the jack under the front axle and raise it until the front wheels are off the ground. Ensure to use jack stands to support the truck while working.

Step 4: Remove the lug nuts and wheel.

Now you can remove the lug nuts completely and remove the wheels from the truck.

Step 5: Disconnect the brake caliper and tie it to the frame.

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the cotter pin out of the brake caliper guide pin bolt. Then, remove the guide pin bolt and slide the caliper off the rotor. Avoid allowing the caliper to hang by the brake hose; instead, tie it to the frame with a piece of wire or twine to keep it from getting in the way.

Step 6: Remove the rotor and hub assembly.

Use a 36 mm socket and a ratchet to remove the four hub nuts holding the rotor and hub assembly in place. Then, remove the hub assembly from the spindle.

Step 7: Remove the wheel bearing assembly.

Use a pry bar to pry the bearing assembly out of the hub assembly. Be careful not to damage the bearing assembly or the hub assembly.

Step 8: Grease the new wheel bearing assembly.

Before installing the new wheel bearing assembly, generously grease it using the grease gun. This will help prolong the life of the bearing assembly.

Step 9: Install the new wheel bearing assembly.

Install the new wheel bearing assembly into the hub assembly. Ensure the bearing assembly is seated correctly and securely in the hub assembly.

Step 10: Reinstall the hub assembly and rotor.

Slide the hub assembly back onto the spindle and fasten it with the four hub nuts. Tighten the hub nuts until they are snug.

Step 11: Reinstall the brake caliper.

Slide the brake caliper back over the rotor and reinstall the guide pin bolt. Secure it with the cotter pin.

Step 12: Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts.

Place the wheel back on the hub and reinstall the lug nuts. Snug the lug nuts until the truck is lowered to the ground.

Step 13: Lower the truck.

Lower the truck from the jack stands and ensure the lug nuts are tight.

Step 14: Test the bearing assembly.

Take the truck for a test drive and check for any unusual sounds or vibrations. If the bearing assembly is installed correctly, the truck should drive smoothly and quietly.

Remember to always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific vehicle model.
