How To Change a Brake Light in a 2000 Honda Accord EX

Front

1. Get your materials together. You will need:

- New brake light bulb

- Socket wrench set

- Phillips head screwdriver

2. Disconnect the battery. This is located in the engine compartment. Use the socket wrench to loosen the negative terminal bolt and then remove the battery cable.

3. Jack up the car. It is recommended that you use a floor jack and jack stands to do this.

4. Locate the brake light assembly. It is located in the back of the car, on either side of the license plate.

5. Remove the brake light assembly. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the assembly in place. Then, gently pry the assembly out of the car.

6. Remove the old brake light bulb. Twist the bulb counterclockwise to remove it.

7. Install the new brake light bulb. Twist the new bulb clockwise until it is snug.

8. Reinstall the brake light assembly. Insert the assembly into the car and then use the Phillips head screwdriver to reinstall the two screws.

9. Lower the car. Use the floor jack to lower the car until it is on the ground.

10. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery cable to the negative terminal and then use the socket wrench to tighten the terminal bolt.

11. Test the brake lights. Turn on the car and press the brake pedal. The brake lights should come on.

Rear

1. Park your car in a safe location and turn on the hazard lights.

2. Open the trunk of your car.

3. Locate the tail light assembly. It is held in place by two screws on the inside of the trunk.

4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the tail light assembly in place.

5. Once the screws are removed, carefully pull the tail light assembly out of the car.

6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the tail light assembly.

7. Remove the old brake light bulb by turning it counterclockwise.

8. Install the new brake light bulb by turning it clockwise until it is snug.

9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the tail light assembly.

10. Carefully insert the tail light assembly back into the car.

11. Reinsert the screws that hold the tail light assembly in place.

12. Close the trunk of your car.

13. Test the brake lights by pressing on the brake pedal. The brake lights should come on.
