Tools and materials needed:
- New antenna
- Wrench or socket
- Phillips head screwdriver
1. Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake and pop open the hood or trunk; the car's antenna may be accessible from either area depending on the model and its year.
2. Locate the antenna. The antenna is typically located on the roof, fender, or rear quarter panel of the car. It is usually a metal rod or wire that is attached to the car with a nut or bolt.
3. Remove the antenna mounting nut or bolt. Use the wrench or socket to loosen and remove the nut or bolt that holds the antenna in place.
4. Disconnect the antenna wire. There may be a wire that connects the antenna to the car's radio. If there is a wire, disconnect it by unplugging it or removing a connector.
5. Remove the old antenna. Pull the old antenna straight up to remove it from the car.
6. Install the new antenna. Insert the new antenna into the hole in the car's roof, fender, or rear quarter panel.
7. Secure the new antenna. Use the wrench or socket to tighten the nut or bolt that holds the new antenna in place.
8. Reconnect the antenna wire. If there is a wire, reconnect it to the car's radio.
9. Test the antenna. Turn on the car's radio and check to make sure that the antenna is working properly.
10. Close the hood or trunk.
