Replacing the headlight bulb on a 1998 Chevy Prism

Part I: Removing the Existing Headlight Bulb

1. Park your vehicle in a safe and well-lit area, and allow it to cool down if the engine has been running.

2. Open the hood of your vehicle. Locate the hood release lever inside the passenger compartment, usually near the driver's footwell. Pull the lever to release the hood, and then lift it up and prop it open with the support rod.

3. Locate the headlight assembly on the front of the vehicle. The headlight assembly is the housing that contains the headlight bulb and is located on the front of the vehicle, usually behind a clear or plastic cover.

4. Remove the headlight cover. The headlight cover may be held in place by screws, clips, or another type of fastener. Consult your owner's manual or repair guide for the specific instructions on removing the headlight cover for your vehicle.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlight bulb. Locate the electrical connector attached to the back of the headlight bulb. It may be necessary to squeeze the release tabs on the connector or use a small screwdriver to carefully pry it apart.

Part II: Replacing the Headlight Bulb

6. Remove the old headlight bulb. Twist the old headlight bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket. Be careful not to drop the bulb.

7. Inspect the headlight socket for damage or corrosion. If the socket is damaged or corroded, it may be necessary to replace the socket before installing the new bulb.

8. Install the new headlight bulb. Align the new headlight bulb with the socket and twist it clockwise until it is secure.

9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the headlight bulb. Push the electrical connector back onto the bulb until it snaps into place.

10. Replace the headlight cover. Secure the headlight cover back onto the headlight assembly using the screws, clips, or other fasteners that you removed earlier.

11. Close the hood of your vehicle. Once you have finished replacing the headlight bulb, close the hood of your vehicle and secure it by engaging the hood latch.
