1. Preparation:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel you'll be working on, but don't remove them completely.
- Use a jack and jack stands to safely raise the vehicle until the tire is off the ground.
2. Remove the Wheel and Brake Caliper:
- Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
- Remove the two bolts holding the brake caliper.
- Support the caliper with wire or bungee cord to avoid straining the brake line.
3. Remove the Brake Rotor and Hub Assembly:
- Remove the two bolts securing the brake rotor to the hub assembly.
- Pry off the brake rotor from the hub using a pry bar. Be careful not to damage the rotor.
- Unbolt the hub assembly from the steering knuckle using an appropriate socket and wrench.
4. Remove the Old Bearing:
- Clean the exposed areas of the steering knuckle and hub.
- Remove the dust cover from the bearing assembly using a pry bar or flat-head screwdriver.
- Use a drift punch or bearing removal tool to tap out the old bearing.
5. Install the New Bearing:
- Thoroughly clean the hub assembly and bearing seat.
- Apply a small amount of high-temperature grease to the new bearing.
- Position the new bearing onto the hub assembly and tap it into place using a hammer and the appropriate drift punch or socket extension.
- Ensure the bearing is seated properly and flush with the hub assembly.
6. Reinstall the Hub Assembly and Brake Rotor:
- Reattach the hub assembly to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts securely.
- Reattach the brake rotor to the hub assembly and secure it with the bolts.
7. Reinstall the Brake Caliper:
- Reposition the brake caliper onto the rotor and secure it with the two bolts.
- Reconnect the brake line to the caliper.
8. Reinstall the Wheel:
- Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
- Lower the vehicle using the jack and jack stands.
- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench. Refer to the vehicle's specifications for the recommended torque.
Ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened to the recommended specifications, test drive the vehicle to verify proper functioning of the brakes and wheel assembly, and consult your vehicle's repair manual or seek professional assistance if you're unsure about any step.
