Materials:
- New clutch fork
- Clutch release bearing
- Grease
- Thread locker
- Brake fluid
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.
2. Locate the clutch fork. It is located on the driver's side of the transmission bell housing.
3. Remove the clutch fork pivot bolt. This bolt is located at the top of the clutch fork.
4. Remove the clutch fork arm from the ball stud on the transmission input shaft.
5. Inspect the clutch fork for damage. If the fork is cracked or bent, it will need to be replaced.
6. If the clutch fork is broken:
- Remove the release bearing from the clutch fork.
- Install a new release bearing onto the clutch fork, making sure that the bearing is properly seated in the fork.
- Grease the bearing.
- Insert the new clutch fork arm onto the ball stud.
- Reattach the clutch fork with the pivot bolt.
7. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. This is necessary to remove any air from the system that may have entered when the clutch fork was removed.
8. Test the clutch. Start the engine and put the vehicle in gear. The clutch should engage smoothly and without any grinding or slipping.
Tips:
- If you are having difficulty removing the clutch fork pivot bolt, you may need to use a penetrating oil to loosen the bolt.
- Be careful not to drop the clutch fork arm when removing it from the transmission.
- When reinstalling the clutch fork arm, make sure that it is properly seated on the ball stud.
- Bleeding the clutch hydraulic system can be a messy job, so be sure to wear eye protection and gloves.
