The front brake job on a 2004 Honda CR-V is a relatively simple job that can be done at home with a few basic tools. You will need a floor jack, a jack stand, a breaker bar, a ratchet, a socket wrench, and a C-clamp.
1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Engage the parking brake.
3. Chock the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
4. Jack up the front of the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground.
5. Place the jack stands under the vehicle, near the front wheels, and lower the vehicle until it is resting on the jack stands.
6. Use the breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels.
7. Remove the lug nuts and remove the wheels.
8. Use the ratchet and the socket wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the wheel hub.
9. Lift the caliper bracket up and off the rotor.
10. Use the C-clamp to compress the piston in the caliper.
11. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
12. Clean the caliper bracket and the rotor.
13. Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads.
14. Install the new brake pads in the caliper bracket.
15. Lower the caliper bracket over the rotor.
16. Install the two bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the wheel hub.
17. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
18. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
19. Test the brakes.
