2. Get underneath the car and locate the transmission pan. It is usually held in place by bolts or screws.
3. Place a drain pan under the transmission pan to catch the fluid that will drain out.
4. Loosen the bolts or screws that hold the transmission pan in place. Do not remove them completely.
5. Use a pry bar to carefully pry the transmission pan off of the transmission. Be careful not to spill any fluid.
6. Remove the old transmission filter from the transmission pan. It is usually held in place by a nut or bolt.
7. Clean the transmission pan and the old filter. Be sure to remove all of the old gasket material from the pan.
8. Apply a thin coat of gasket sealant to the new filter.
9. Install the new filter into the transmission pan. Tighten the nut or bolt that holds the filter in place.
10. Replace the transmission pan gasket. Be sure to align the gasket correctly.
11. Tighten the bolts or screws that hold the transmission pan in place.
12. Add new transmission fluid to the transmission. The amount of fluid that you need will vary depending on the make and model of your car. Check the owner's manual for the correct amount.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new fluid throughout the transmission.
14. Check the transmission fluid level and add more if necessary.
