- 10mm socket
- 12mm socket
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Torx T30 screwdriver
Once you have gathered your tools, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This will prevent the airbag from deploying while you are working.
2. Remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the steering wheel in place. These bolts are located on the underside of the steering wheel.
3. Use a pry tool, flat head screw driver to gently pry the airbag off the steering wheel. Be careful not to damage the airbag or the steering wheel.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the airbag and the horn.
5. Remove the 12mm nut that holds the steering wheel in place.
6. Remove the steering wheel from the vehicle.
To install the new steering wheel, simply reverse the steps above. Be sure to tighten the 12mm nut securely.
Here are some additional tips for removing the steering wheel on a 1999 Honda Civic:
- If the steering wheel is difficult to remove, you can use a steering wheel puller.
- Be careful not to damage the airbag or the steering wheel.
- If you are uncomfortable working on the steering wheel, you can take your vehicle to a mechanic.
