1. Locate the alternator. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine, near the top.
2. Find the alternator belt. It is a ribbed belt that runs from the alternator to the crankshaft.
3. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts. There are usually two or three bolts that hold the alternator in place.
4. Pry the alternator away from the engine. This will loosen the belt.
5. Tighten the alternator belt. There is usually a tensioner pulley that you can use to adjust the belt tension.
6. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.
7. Start the engine and check the belt tension. The belt should be tight enough to prevent it from slipping, but not so tight that it puts strain on the alternator bearings.
