2. Find the diagnostic connector under the dashboard, usually near the driver's side kick panel.
3. Connect the jumper wire to the two terminals of the diagnostic connector:
> a. Terminal #1: Ground (black/white wire)
> b. Terminal #10: Self-Diagnosis (blue/green wire)
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
5. Wait 10 seconds.
6. Turn the ignition switch back to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
7. The airbag light should start to flash.
8. Count the number of flashes.
9. Refer to the Nissan Xterra owner's manual to look up the diagnostic trouble code based on the number of flashes.
10. Disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
11. Start the engine and drive the vehicle for at least 10 minutes.
12. The airbag light should turn off.
