- 12mm socket wrench
- Flathead screwdriver
- Pliers
- Permatex gasket maker
Instructions:
1. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal.
2. Locate the valve cover on the top of the engine. It is a rectangular-shaped cover that is usually black or silver.
3. Remove the bolts holding the valve cover in place. There will be four or five bolts on each side of the valve cover.
4. Pry the valve cover off the engine. Be careful not to drop the valve cover on the ground. There might be some oil under valve cover so wipe it off with rag.
5. Clean the mating surface of the valve cover and the cylinder head with a scotch bright pad.
6. Apply a thin bead of Permatex gasket maker to the mating surface of the valve cover. Be careful not to get any gasket maker in the oil ports or spark plug tubes.
7. Set the new valve cover gasket in place on the cylinder head.
8. Replace the bolts holding the valve cover in place. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to evenly distribute the pressure.
9. If you are replacing the spark plug tube seals, now is the time to do so. Carefully pry the old seals out of the spark plug tubes and press the new seals into place.
10. Reattach the negative battery cable to the battery terminal.
11. Start the engine and check for leaks. There should not be any leaks from the valve cover gasket or the spark plug tube seals.
