1. Locate the handbrake adjustment nut. The handbrake adjustment nut is usually located at the rear of the vehicle, underneath the car.
2. Loosen the lock nut. The lock nut is located on the handbrake adjustment nut.
3. Turn the handbrake adjustment nut clockwise to tighten the handbrake cable.
4. Turn the handbrake adjustment nut counterclockwise to loosen the handbrake cable.
5. Test the handbrake. The handbrake should hold the vehicle in place when it is fully engaged.
6. Adjust the handbrake adjustment nut until the handbrake holds the vehicle in place when it is fully engaged.
7. Tighten the lock nut. The lock nut should be tightened to the same torque specification as the handbrake adjustment nut.
Make sure that you don't over-tighten the handbrake cable. If the handbrake cable is too tight, it will cause the brakes to drag, which can damage the brake pads and rotors.
