How do you open a Mazda Protege trunk when the release does not work?

1. Locate the Emergency Trunk Release. The emergency trunk release is usually located in the trunk or underneath the rear passenger seat. In the Mazda Protege, it is located on the right side of the trunk, behind the carpet.

2. Open the Trunk. Look for the plastic covering and push it in. Now you can pull on the release handle. Pull the release lever, and the trunk should pop open.
