How do you change into or out of 4 wheel drive in a 98 Toyota 4Runner?

To engage four wheel drive:

1. Stop the vehicle and shift to neutral.

2. Pull up on the 4WD lever located on the floor of the vehicle.

3. Shift to 4H or 4L as desired.

4. When shifted into 4H, the 4WD indicator will light up on the dashboard.

To disengage four wheel drive:

1. Stop the vehicle and shift into neutral.

2. Pull up the lever on the 4WD lever and depress the button labeled "4L".

3. Shift into 2H.

4. The "4WD" indicator light will turn off.
