How do you install a distributor for 1997 Nissan Altima?

Tools needed:

- Thread sealant

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the distributor cap.

3. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the rotor button.

4. Locate the distributor assembly and loosen the hold-down bolt using the distributor wrench. Note the position of the rotor to help ensure the timing doesn’t get messed up during reinstallation.

5. Pull the distributor out of the engine.

6. Inspect the distributor gasket and replace it if necessary.

7. Install the distributor alignment tool into the oil pump drive.

8. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the threads of the distributor bolt.

9. Install the distributor into the engine. Tighten the hold-down bolt until it is snug.

10. Reinstall the rotor button.

11. Reconnect the battery.

12. Start the engine and verify that the timing is correct.
