Step 1: Prepare the Car
1. Park your Celica on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Engage the transmission gear.
Step 2: Locate the Drain Plug
1. Locate the transmission fluid drain plug. In the 2002 Toyota Celica, the drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the transmission oil pan, towards the rear of the vehicle.
Step 3: Drain the Old Fluid
1. Place the transmission drain pan below the drain plug to collect the old fluid.
2. Use the 17mm socket wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug.
3. Allow the old fluid to drain completely into the drain pan.
4. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.
Step 4: Remove the Transmission Filter
1. Locate the transmission fluid filter. In the Celica, the filter is usually located in the transmission oil pan.
2. Use the 10mm socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the transmission filter in place.
3. Remove the old filter and gasket from the transmission oil pan.
4. Clean the filter mating surface on the transmission oil pan.
Step 5: Install the New Filter
1. Place the new filter gasket onto the transmission oil pan.
2. Install the new filter and secure it with the bolts you removed earlier.
3. Tighten the bolts snugly.
Step 6: Add New Fluid
1. Remove the transmission fluid dipstick. Insert the funnel into the dipstick tube.
2. Add the specified amount of new fluid into the transmission.
3. Check the fluid level with the dipstick. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
Step 7: Start the Engine and Check
1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
2. Shift the transmission through all gears.
3. Check for leaks or drips around the drain plug and the transmission filter area.
Step 8: Test Drive
1. Take your Celica for a short test drive.
2. Check for any unusual noises or vibrations.
3. Check for any transmission shifting issues.
Step 9: Check the Fluid Level
1. After the test drive, park the car on a level surface and let it sit for a few minutes.
2. Re-check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick.
3. Adjust the fluid level if necessary.
Note: Consult your owner's manual or a trusted mechanic if you have any doubts or questions during the process. Some vehicles may have specific procedures for changing the transmission fluid, so always refer to the manufacturer's recommendations.
