How do you change valve cover gaskets on a 2013 rav4 Toyota?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- 10mm socket wrench

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Pliers

- New valve cover gaskets

- RTV silicone sealant

- Rags

- Degreaser

- Engine oil

Procedure:

1. Open the hood of your Rav4 and remove the plastic engine cover.

2. Locate the valve covers on the top of the engine. There will be one valve cover on each side of the engine.

3. Use the 10mm socket wrench to remove the bolts that hold the valve covers in place.

4. Once the bolts are removed, carefully pry the valve covers off the engine using the pry tool.

5. Clean the gasket seating surface on the engine block and valve covers with degreaser and a rag.

6. Apply a thin bead of RTV silicone sealant to the gasket seating surfaces of the valve covers and engine block.

7. Place the new valve cover gaskets on the valve covers and engine block.

8. Install the valve covers and bolts back in place.

9. Tighten the bolts securely with the 10mm socket wrench.

10. Put back the plastic engine cover.

11. Start your engine and check for leaks.

This procedure should take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. If you are uncomfortable performing this task, it is best to take your Rav4 to a qualified mechanic.
