How to Replace the Water Pump on a 1992 Nissan 300ZX

*Note: This guide is for the naturally aspirated (NA) models only. The turbo models (TT) may have different procedures.*

Tools:

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Allen wrench set (hex key set)

- 10mm socket

- 12mm socket

- 14mm socket

- 17mm socket

- 22mm socket

- Torque wrench

- Coolant

- Funnel

- Gasket sealant

- Shop towels

- Safety goggles

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.

2. Open the hood and locate the water pump. It's on the front of the engine, just below the thermostat housing.

3. Loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and drain the coolant into a drain pan.

4. Once the coolant is drained, locate the two 10mm bolts that hold the water pump in place. Remove these bolts and carefully remove the water pump. Be careful not to spill any coolant on yourself or the engine components.

5. Clean the mating surface of the water pump on the engine block. Remove any old gasket sealant and make sure the surface is clean and free of debris.

6. Apply a thin bead of gasket sealant around the mating surface of the new water pump.

7. Carefully place the new water pump on the engine block and secure it with the two 10mm bolts. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.

8. Reinstall the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and fill the radiator with coolant.

9. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks and make sure that the engine is operating properly.

10. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.

11. Recheck the coolant level and add more if necessary.

12. Close the hood and your 300ZX is ready to go!
