How do you replace the water pump on a 1992 Nissan Stanza?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Replacement water pump

- Wrench set

- Pliers

- Antifreeze

- Rags

- Funnel

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Instructions:

1. Park the car in a safe location and allow the engine to cool down.

2. Locate the water pump. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the bottom.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent any electrical shocks while you are working.

4. Drain the coolant from the radiator. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. Open the drain plug and allow all of the coolant to drain out.

5. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is a long, thin belt that drives the water pump and other engine accessories. To remove the serpentine belt, loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and then slip the belt off of the pulleys.

6. Remove the water pump bolts. There are usually four bolts that hold the water pump in place. Remove these bolts and carefully remove the water pump.

7. Clean the water pump mounting surface. Remove any old gasket material and dirt from the water pump mounting surface.

8. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new water pump gasket. This will help to prevent leaks.

9. Install the new water pump. Place the new water pump in position and carefully thread in the bolts. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.

10. Install the serpentine belt. Slip the serpentine belt back onto the pulleys and then tighten the tensioner pulley bolt.

11. Fill the radiator with coolant. Add coolant to the radiator until it is full.

12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the coolant throughout the engine and check for leaks.

14. Check for leaks. Inspect the water pump and the hoses for any leaks. If you find any leaks, tighten the bolts or clamps until the leaks stop.

Note: If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, you can take your car to a qualified mechanic.
