How do you change value cover gasket on a 2002 lexus ls 430?

Tools and Materials Needed

* New valve cover gasket set

* Socket wrench set

* Ratchet

* Screwdriver

* Pliers

* Gasket scraper

* RTV sealant

Instructions

1. Park your Lexus LS 430 on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.

2. Open the hood of your Lexus LS 430.

3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical shock from occurring while you are working on the vehicle.

4. Remove the engine cover.

5. Locate the valve covers. There are two valve covers, one on each side of the engine.

6. Remove the valve cover bolts. There are six bolts on each valve cover.

7. Carefully remove the valve covers. Be careful not to drop the valve covers into the engine.

8. Clean the valve cover mating surfaces and the cylinder head surfaces with a gasket scraper. Remove all old gasket material.

9. Apply a thin bead of RTV sealant to the valve cover mating surfaces.

10. Install the new valve cover gaskets.

11. Replace the valve covers and bolts. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

12. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the valve cover bolts until the leaks stop.

Tips

* Be careful not to overtighten the valve cover bolts. This could damage the valve covers or the cylinder head.

* If you are not comfortable performing these repairs yourself, you can take your Lexus LS 430 to a qualified mechanic.
