The starter in a 1997 Honda Accord EX is located on the driver's side of the engine, behind the exhaust manifold. It is attached to the transmission bell housing with two bolts. To access the starter, remove the following:
- Battery negative terminal
- Air filter housing
- Intake manifold bracket(s)
- Exhaust manifold heat shield
- Exhaust manifold flange bolts
- Exhaust manifold (may need to be carefully pried off)
With the exhaust manifold removed, you will be able to see the starter. Remove the two bolts that hold the starter to the transmission bell housing and disconnect the electrical connector. The starter can then be removed from the vehicle.
