How do you replace the water pump on a 1993 buick regal v6 3.8?

Tools Needed:

- Set of wrenches

- Socket set

- Ratchet

- Extension

- Pliers

- Screwdriver

- Oil drain pan

- New water pump

- Gasket sealer

Instructions

1.) Make sure the engine is cool.

2.) Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical shocks while you are working on the car.

3.) Drain the coolant. Place a drain pan under the car, and loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Allow the coolant to drain completely.

4.) Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses from the water pump. Use a wrench to loosen the hose clamps, and then pull the hoses off the nipples on the water pump.

5.)Remove the serpentine belt. Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley, and then remove the belt from around the pulleys. If there are any cooling fans in the way of the water pump, remove them as well.

6.) Remove the water pump. Use a socket set to remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine bay.

7.) Clean the mating surface of the water pump. Use a scraper to remove any old gasket material or sealant from the mating surface of the water pump and the engine block.

8.) Apply gasket sealer to the new water pump. Use a thin bead of gasket sealer around the perimeter of the water pump gasket.

9.) Install the new water pump. Place the new water pump on the engine block, and secure it with the bolts that you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.

10.)Reconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses. Slide the hoses onto the nipples on the water pump, and secure them with the hose clamps that you removed earlier.

11.)Reconnect the serpentine belt. Place the belt around the pulleys, and then tighten the tensioner pulley until the belt is snug.

12.)Refill the coolant. Add coolant to the radiator until it reaches the "Full" mark.

13.)Reconnect the battery.

14.) Start the car and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks from the water pump. If you see any leaks, tighten the bolts until the leak stops.

Your water pump is now replaced and your vehicle should be back in working order.
