1. Turn off the ignition and make sure all accessories are turned off.
2. Locate the OBD-II port under the dashboard, usually below the steering wheel or near the center console.
3. Connect an OBD-II scanner to the port. The OBD-II scanner will communicate with the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU) and allow you to read and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
4. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
5. Follow the prompts on the OBD-II scanner to select the option to erase or clear DTCs. This may be labeled "Clear Codes," "Erase Codes," or something similar.
6. Confirm that you want to erase the DTCs. The OBD-II scanner will erase all stored DTCs, including the one that triggered the check engine light.
7. Disconnect the OBD-II scanner from the port.
8. Start the engine and check if the check engine light is off. If the check engine light is still on or if the same code reappears, it indicates a more significant issue with the vehicle. In that case, you will need to diagnose and repair the underlying problem before resetting the check engine light again.
