- A ratcheting wrench with a 17mm socket
- A 3mm hex wrench
- A pry bar
- A hammer
1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel that is on the side of the vehicle that you are removing the CV axle from. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.
2. Jack up the vehicle and support it on a jack stand.
3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
4. Remove the cotter pin from the axle nut.
5. Use the 17mm socket to loosen the axle nut. Do not remove the axle nut completely.
6. Use the 3mm hex wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the brake caliper bracket in place.
7. Pry the brake caliper bracket off of the brake rotor. Do not disconnect the brake line from the caliper.
8. Use the pry bar to pry the CV axle out of the wheel hub.
9. Pull the CV axle out of the transmission.
Tips:
- If the CV axle is stuck, you can use a hammer to knock it loose.
- Be careful not to damage the brake rotor or the brake caliper when you are removing the CV axle.
