Replacing the Shift Sensor on a Honda Rancher ATV

Tools Needed

- Pliers

- Wrench set

- Torque wrench

Instructions

1. Park your ATV on a flat surface, and turn off the engine.

2. Locate the shift sensor, which is located on the left side of the engine, near the rear. It is a small, black cylindrical-shaped component with wires coming out of it.

3. Use a pair of pliers to disconnect the wiring harness connector from the shift sensor. Twist it counter-clockwise to unhook the clips.

4. Use a wrench to loosen the retaining bolt for the sensor, then remove the bolt.

5. Remove the old shift sensor from the engine.

6. Install the new shift sensor, tightening the retaining bolt by hand.

7. Reinstall the wiring connector, and ensure it clips securely into place.

8. Lower the tool and restart your ATV. Shift gears and test the sensor to make sure it is functioning properly.
