* Socket set (10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm)
* Adjustable wrench
* Phillips head screwdriver
* Flat head screwdriver
* Replacement alternator
* New serpentine belt (if needed)
Instructions:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the alternator on the passenger side of the engine, underneath the power steering pump.
3. Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley bolt with a 15mm socket.
4. Remove the two 15mm bolts that hold the alternator in place.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the alternator.
6. Remove the alternator from the vehicle.
7. Install the new alternator by reversing the steps listed above.
8. Tighten the alternator bolts to 35 ft-lbs (47 Nm).
9. Reconnect the battery negative cable and start the engine.
10. Use an adjustable wrench to check belt tension. When you push down on the belt in the middle between pulleys there should be 1/2 inch of deflection up-and-down for a new belt and 3/8 inch for a worn belt. If there is too much deflection, loosen the idler pulley adjusting bolt so the belt can be slid upwards to increase tension. If too little deflection, loosen and slide down to release tension.
If you are unsure of your mechanical abilities, it is recommended to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic to have the alternator replaced.
