1. Start with your car in Park and the engine off.
2. Use a pair of pliers or a socket wrench to loosen the locknut that is right behind the brake lever in your Prizm's center console.
3. Pull your parking brake lever up as high as it will go.
4. While holding your lever in position, turn the adjuster nut all the way down so it touches the floorboard of your car.
5. Release your parking brake lever and let it drop all the way down before tightening your locknut.
You can now test out your new parking brake adjustment! Be sure to do so in a safe area before you head out on the road.
Helpful Tips
- It's a good idea to adjust your parking brake every time you change your brake pads.
- You can also adjust the parking brake if you feel that it is not engaging as securely as it should.
- If you cannot adjust your Geo Prizm's parking brake, you may need to replace its parking brake cable.
