Step 1: Park your X5 on a level surface and turn off the engine.
Be sure to engage the parking brake.
Step 2: Open the hood of your X5.
Pull the hood release lever located under the dashboard on the driver's side. Then, lift the hood and prop it open with the support rod.
Step 3: Locate the headlight assembly.
It is located behind the front bumper.
Step 4: Remove the four bolts that secure the headlight assembly.
Use a 10mm socket wrench to loosen the bolts.
Step 5: Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlight assembly.
Press down on the release tab and pull the connector straight off.
Step 6: Remove the headlight assembly from the vehicle.
Carefully lift the headlight assembly out of the vehicle.
Step 7: Install the new headlight assembly.
Reverse the steps above to install the new headlight assembly.
Step 8: Test the headlight to make sure it is working properly.
Turn on the headlights and check that both the low and high beams are working.
Step 9: Close the hood of your X5.
Lower the hood and snap it closed.
Congratulations! You have successfully replaced the headlight assembly on your 2006 BMW X5.
