Tools and Materials Needed:
1. Replacement speed sensor
2. Socket wrench set
3. Ratchet
4. Extension bars
5. Flathead screwdriver
6. Safety glasses
Procedure:
1. Safety First:
Before starting, put on your safety glasses to protect your eyes from any debris or fluids.
2. Locate the Speed Sensor:
The speed sensor is usually located on the transmission housing, near the output shaft. It's typically a small, cylindrical device with a wire connector attached.
3. Disconnect the Electrical Connector:
Disconnect the electrical connector from the speed sensor by pressing the release tab and gently pulling it apart.
4. Remove the Old Speed Sensor:
Use the appropriate socket wrench and extension bar to loosen and remove the mounting bolt(s) that hold the speed sensor in place. Be careful not to drop the mounting hardware.
Once the bolts are removed, gently twist and pull the speed sensor out of its housing.
5. Clean the Sensor Area:
Before installing the new sensor, clean the area around the sensor hole to remove any dirt or debris that may interfere with the proper attachment of the sensor.
6. Install the New Speed Sensor:
Insert the new speed sensor into the housing, aligning it properly.
Secure the speed sensor in place by tightening the mounting bolt(s) that you removed earlier.
7. Reconnect the Electrical Connector:
Reconnect the electrical connector to the speed sensor by aligning it and pressing it together until it clicks into place.
8. Test the Sensor:
Start the vehicle and engage the gears to check if the speed sensor is working correctly. The speedometer should display the correct vehicle speed.
Note: If the speedometer still doesn't provide an accurate reading, there may be other issues with the sensor or the wiring, and further diagnostics may be necessary.
9. Clean Up:
Clean up any tools or debris that you used during the process.
