- Jack and jack stands
- Lug wrench
- Flathead screwdriver
- C-clamp
- Brake grease
- New brake pads
Instructions:
1. Park your truck on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, but do not remove them completely.
3. Jack up the rear of the truck and place jack stands under the frame.
4. Remove the lug nuts and wheels.
5. Locate the brake caliper on the back of the wheel hub.
6. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the brake pad retaining clip off of the caliper.
7. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper.
8. Clean the caliper with brake cleaner.
9. Apply brake grease to the new brake pads.
10. Install the new brake pads into the caliper.
11. Replace the brake pad retaining clip.
12. Use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston.
13. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.
14. Lower the truck from the jack stands.
15. Test the brakes to make sure they work properly.
Once you have completed these steps, you will have successfully changed the rear brake pads on your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500.
