How do you remove the brake drums on a 1999 Toyota Camry?

To remove the brake drums on a 1999 Toyota Camry, you will need:

1. A floor jack

2. Jack stands

3. A lug wrench

4. A flat-head screwdriver

5. A brake drum removal tool

Instructions:

1. Prepare your vehicle: Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. If you can't access your parking brake, chock the wheels. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels but do not remove them.

2. Raise your vehicle. Place the floor jack under the vehicle's frame, near the wheel you want to work on. Raise it just enough so that the tire is off the ground. Place a jack stand under the vehicle for safety, then lower it until it supports the vehicle's weight.

3. Remove the lug nuts and wheel. With the lug wrench, remove the lug nuts, then pull the wheel straight toward you to remove it.

4. Locate the brake drum. Behind the wheel, you'll see the brake drum. It is a metal cylinder attached to the wheel hub.

5. Remove the brake drum. Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry the rubber dust cap off the center of the brake drum. Then, use the brake drum removal tool to remove the brake drum from the wheel hub.

NOTE: If the brake drum is stuck, you may need to tap it with a hammer to loosen it. Be careful not to damage the brake drum.

6. Once the brake drum is removed, you can inspect the brake shoes and other brake components for wear or damage. If necessary, replace any worn or damaged parts.

7. To reinstall the brake drum, simply reverse the steps outlined above. Make sure to center the brake drum on the wheel hub before tightening the lug nuts.

NOTE: It is important to properly torque the lug nuts to ensure that the brake drum is securely fastened. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct torque specifications.
