- New spark plugs (refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct type and specifications).
- Socket wrench with a spark plug socket.
- Extension bars (if needed).
- Gap gauge (to verify and adjust the spark plug gap).
2. Prepare Your Vehicle:
- Park your vehicle in a well-lit and safe area.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical accidents.
3. Remove the Ignition Coils:
- Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil.
- Use a spark plug socket and extension bar (if needed) to loosen and remove the ignition coils. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine.
4. Access the Spark Plugs:
- With the ignition coils removed, you will now see the spark plugs.
5. Remove the Spark Plugs:
- Use the spark plug socket and extension bar to loosen and remove the spark plugs.
- Be sure to remove them one at a time to avoid mixing up the ignition wire order.
6. Check and Gap New Spark Plugs:
- Inspect the removed spark plugs for any signs of wear or damage.
- Use a spark plug gap tool to check and adjust the gap of the new spark plugs to the recommended specifications provided in your vehicle's owner's manual.
7. Install New Spark Plugs:
- Hand-tighten the new spark plugs into their respective holes.
- Use the spark plug socket to tighten them until snug. Do not over-tighten as it can damage the spark plugs or the threads.
8. Reattach Ignition Coils:
- Reinstall the ignition coils by hand-tightening them.
- Use a socket wrench to tighten the ignition coils until snug.
- Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
9. Reconnect Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
10. Start the Engine:
- Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
11. Test Drive and Check Engine Performance:
- Take the vehicle for a test drive to check if the engine runs smoothly and responds properly.
12. Clean Up:
- Clean up any tools or materials you used during the process.
