How do you replace rear brake shoes 2000 Honda CR-V?

Tools and materials needed:

- Jack and jack stands

- Lug wrench

- Socket wrench set

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Brake cleaner

- New brake shoes

- Brake grease

- C-clamp

Step 1: Park your vehicle in a safe location.

Engage the parking brake and chock the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

Step 2: Locate the rear brake drums.

The rear brake drums are located behind the rear wheels.

Step 3: Remove the rear wheels.

Use the lug wrench to loosen lug nuts on the rear wheels, then jack the car and place jack stands under the car. Remove the lug nuts completely and remove the wheels.

Step 4: Remove the brake drum.

Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the brake drum dust cover. Then use a screwdriver to turn the brake drum adjuster until the drum comes loose. Remove the drum by pulling it straight off of the axle.

Step 5: Inspect the brake shoes.

Inspect the brake shoes for wear. The brake shoes should be replaced if they are worn to less than 1/8 inch (3 mm).

Step 6: Remove the old brake shoes.

Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining spring and then remove the brake shoes from the backing plate.

Step 7: Clean the backing plate.

Use a brake cleaner to clean the backing plate and remove any dirt or grease.

Step 8: Install the new brake shoes.

Position the new brake shoes in the backing plate and secure them with the retaining spring.

Step 9: Adjust the brake shoes.

Use a screwdriver to turn the brake drum adjuster until the brake shoes are snug against the brake drum.

Step 10: Reinstall the brake drum.

Place the brake drum on the axle and tap it lightly with a hammer until it is seated properly.

Step 11: Reinstall the lug nuts and wheels.

Reinstall the lug nuts by tightening in alternating star pattern until snug. Then lower the car and remove jack stands. Torque the lug nuts to 75-80 ft-lb.

Step 12: Test the brakes.

Pump the brake pedal several times until you feel firm pressure. Then, take the car for a test drive and brake several times to make sure the brakes are working properly.
