1. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter on the 2004 Cavalier is located under the car, near the gas tank. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with two fuel lines connected to it.
2. Pry off the plastic clip. The plastic clip is located on the side of the fuel filter. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the clip off. Be careful not to damage the fuel filter.
3. Disconnect the fuel lines. Once the clip is removed, you can disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the fuel lines in place. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
4. Remove the fuel filter. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove the fuel filter. Pull the fuel filter straight up and out of its housing. Be careful not to damage the fuel filter.
5. Install the new fuel filter. Insert the new fuel filter into the housing and push it down until it is seated properly. Connect the fuel lines to the new fuel filter and tighten the nuts.
6. Replace the plastic clip. Replace the plastic clip on the side of the fuel filter and snap it into place.
7. Start the car. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes to check for leaks. If there are no leaks, the fuel filter has been successfully replaced.
