Instructions:
1. Park your Mercury Monterey on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Chock the wheels to prevent the car from rolling.
3. Locate the brake caliper on the rear wheels. It is the metal housing that covers the brake pads and rotor.
4. Remove the two bolts that hold the brake caliper in place and remove it from the rotor.
5. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the dust boot off of the brake piston.
6. Place the C-clamp on the brake piston and clamp it down to compress the piston.
7. Continue to compress the piston until it is fully retracted into the caliper.
8. Clean the brake caliper and piston with a rag and brake fluid.
9. Reinstall the brake caliper and pads.
10. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with new brake fluid.
11. Test the brakes by applying pressure to the brake pedal.
Tips:
- Be careful not to damage the brake caliper or piston when retracting it.
- Make sure that the brake pads are properly seated in the caliper before reinstalling it.
- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the proper type of brake fluid, as specified in your owner's manual.
- Always consult a qualified mechanic if you have any questions or concerns about retracting the brake cylinder on your vehicle.
