How do you change front brake pads on 99 Ford transit?

Tools and Materials:

1. Jack and jack stands

2. Lug wrench

3. Socket set

4. Philips screwdriver

5. C-clamp

6. Brake fluid (DOT 3)

7. New brake pads

8. Brake grease

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Vehicle

- Engage the parking brake and chock the rear wheels.

- Jack up the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.

- Remove the front lug nuts and take off the wheels.

Step 2: Remove the Brake Caliper

- Locate the brake caliper on the back of the wheel hub.

- Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the brake fluid.

- Gently lift off the caliper and set it aside, being careful not to let it hang by the brake hose.

Step 3: Remove Old Brake Pads

- Inspect the old brake pads for wear or damage.

- If the brake pads appear to be worn out or cracked, it's time to replace them.

- To remove the old brake pads, simply slide them out of the caliper.

Step 4: Compress the Brake Caliper Piston

- Use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston back into the caliper. This will help you to fit the new brake pads.

- Make sure to do this slowly and carefully to prevent damaging the caliper or piston.

Step 5: Install New Brake Pads

- Place the new brake pads into the caliper.

- If the new pads are thicker than the old ones, you may need to slightly adjust the caliper piston to make room.

- Ensure the brake pads are seated properly and that they are not overlapping.

Step 6: Reattach the Brake Caliper

- Place the caliper back onto the wheel hub and reinstall the two bolts you removed earlier.

- Do not over-tighten the bolts, as this can damage the threads.

Step 7: Reinstall the Wheel

- Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even tightening.

- Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.

Step 8: Test the Brakes

- Before driving, test the brakes by pressing on the brake pedal several times to ensure they are working correctly.

- If necessary, bleed the brakes to remove any air that may have entered the system.
