How do you change the clutch in a 1982 Chevrolet S-10?

Tools needed:

-Floor jack

-Jack stands

-Socket set

-Wrenches

-Phillips head screwdriver

-Flat head screwdriver

-Clutch alignment tool

-New clutch kit (includes clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing)

-Transmission fluid (manual)

-Rags

Instructions:

1. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure with jack stands.

2. Remove the transmission cross member.

3. Remove the starter.

4. Disconnect the clutch cable from the clutch fork.

5. Using a clutch alignment tool, center the clutch disc on the flywheel.

6. Install the pressure plate and bolts by hand.

7. Remove the clutch alignment tool.

8. Tighten the pressure plate bolts in a star pattern to 15 ft-lbs, then 25 ft-lbs, then 35 ft-lbs.

9. Install the release bearing.

10. Reattach the clutch cable to the clutch fork.

11. Install the starter.

12. Reinstall the transmission cross member.

13. Lower the vehicle.

14. Check the transmission fluid level and add as necessary.

15. Test drive the vehicle to make sure the clutch is working properly.
