1. Preparations
- Gather necessary tools and parts:
- New upper control arm bushings (OEM or aftermarket)
- Socket set
- Ratchet
- Wrenches
- Pry bar
- Jack
- Safety stands
- Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Engage first gear (manual) or park (automatic) for safety.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise and Support the Vehicle:
- Use the jack to lift the front end of your Ranger until the tire on the side you're replacing the bushings is off the ground.
- Place safety stands under the vehicle's frame for additional support.
3. Remove the Wheel:
- Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel.
- Raise the vehicle with the jack until the tire clears the ground.
- Remove the wheel completely and set it aside.
4. Disconnect Sway Bar (If Applicable):
- If your Ranger has a sway bar, it may need to be disconnected to provide more room for the control arm.
5. Locate and Remove the Old Bushings:
- Use a pry bar to carefully remove the old bushing from the upper control arm.
- Depending on the design, you may need to remove bolts securing the bushing to the arm.
6. Install the New Bushings:
- Fit the new bushing into the control arm.
- If necessary, use a mallet or special bushing tool to press the bushing into place.
- Align the holes of the bushing with those on the control arm and insert appropriate bolts.
7. Reconnect Sway Bar (If Applicable):
- If you removed the sway bar, reinstall it now.
8. Repeat the Process for the Other Side (if necessary):
- If replacing upper control arm bushings on both sides, repeat the process for the other side.
9. Lower the Vehicle:
- Carefully lower the vehicle back down using the jack.
10. Reinstall the Wheel
- Place the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
- Lower the vehicle until it's resting on the ground, then tighten the lug nuts more firmly.
11. Reconnect Battery:
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
12. Test Drive:
- Take the vehicle for a short drive to ensure proper handling and alignment.
