How do you know when your wheel bearings have gone?

1. Noise

- A humming or grinding noise that increases with speed.

- It may be difficult to hear at first, but it can become quite loud as the bearing wears out.

2. Vibration

- The steering wheel or the entire car may vibrate, especially at high speeds.

- This vibration may also be felt in the floor or seat of the car.

3. Difficulty steering

- The car may pull to one side or the other. This is because the worn bearing causes the wheel to wobble, which in turn affects the steering.

4. Uneven tire wear

- The tire on the side with the bad bearing may wear out more quickly than the other tires. This is because the worn bearing causes the wheel to camber, which changes the way the tire contacts the road.

5. Play in the wheel

- If you jack up the car and try to move the wheel from side to side, there may be some play. This play should not exceed 1/4 inch.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important to have your wheel bearings checked as soon as possible. Worn wheel bearings can cause the wheel to seize, which can lead to an accident.
