Tools Needed:
- 10mm socket wrench
- Socket extension
- Ratcheting wrench
- Pliers
- Replacement camshaft position sensor
Procedure:
1. Park the vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down sufficiently to avoid burns.
2. Open the hood of your Sorento. Locate the engine cover and remove it by pulling up on the release tab and lifting it off.
3. Locate the camshaft position sensor. It is usually situated on the rear of the engine, near the top of the cylinder head. It is typically held in place by two bolts.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight up to disconnect it.
5. Use the 10mm socket wrench and extension to loosen and remove the two bolts that hold the camshaft position sensor in place. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine bay.
6. Remove the old camshaft position sensor from the engine. Gently pry it out of its mounting location if necessary.
7. Insert the new camshaft position sensor into the mounting location. Ensure it is properly seated and aligned.
8. Secure the new camshaft position sensor with the two bolts you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the camshaft position sensor. Press down on the release tab and push the connector firmly until it clicks into place.
10. Reinstall the engine cover and close the hood.
11. Start the engine and check for proper operation. The engine should run smoothly without any warning lights on the dashboard.
