Materials needed:
-Feeler gauges
-Wrench
1.Preparation
-Allow the engine to cool down.
-Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the spark plug.
2.Locate Valve Assembly:
-Remove the valve covers to expose the valve mechanism.
3.Check Clearances:
-Position a feeler gauge between the valve stem and rocker arm.
-The correct valve clearance is 0.004-0.006 inches (0.10-0.15mm) when the piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) during the compression stroke.
4.Adjusting Valves:
-If the clearance is not within specifications, use a wrench to loosen the locknut on the valve adjusting screw slightly.
-Rotate the adjusting screw until the desired clearance is achieved.
-Retighten the locknut securely to hold the adjustment.
5.Double Check:
-Double check the valve clearances to ensure they are within specifications.
6.Reinstall Components:
-Replace the valve covers and spark plug.
-Reconnect the spark plug wire.
7.Test Run:
-Start the lawn mower and let it run for a few minutes.
-Check for any unusual sounds or vibrations to ensure the valves are properly adjusted.
