Tools and Equipment Needed:
Wrench set
Socket set
Pry bar
Hammer
Jack and Jack stands
Procedure:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Locate the rear CV joint. It is the joint that connects the driveshaft to the rear wheels.
3. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels. Do not remove the lug nuts completely at this point.
4. Jack up the rear of the vehicle until the tires are off the ground. Place jack stands under the vehicle for safety.
5. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.
6. Use a pry bar to pry off the dust cover on the CV joint.
7. Remove the cotter pin that secures the castle nut on the CV joint.
8. Use a wrench to loosen the castle nut. Be careful not to let the driveshaft spin freely. Hold it in place by inserting a pry bar or a screwdriver into one of the holes in the CV joint.
9. Once the castle nut is loose, remove the driveshaft from the CV joint. There may be a need to use a hammer to knock the CV joint free from the driveshaft.
10. Inspect the CV joint for any damage. If there is any damage, replace the CV joint.
11. Re-assemble the CV joint by inserting the driveshaft into the CV joint and securing with the castle nut, cotter pin, and dust boot.
12. Re-install the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts securely.
13. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
Note: It is recommended to consult the vehicle-specific repair manual for detailed instructions and torque specifications. The process of removing the CV joint may vary slightly depending on the specific year and model of your Hyundai Santa Fe.
