Pre-2000 Buick LeSabre:
1. Locate the fuel filter. Pre-2000 models have the fuel filter located near the rear of the vehicle, underneath near the rear passenger wheel.
2. Gather your tools. You will need a screwdriver, a wrench, a new fuel filter, and a replacement rubber gasket.
3. Disconnect the fuel line. Use the screwdriver to gently pry open the fuel line clamp and remove the fuel line from the fuel filter. Be careful, as fuel may leak out.
4. Remove the old fuel filter. Use the wrench to loosen the fuel filter mounting bracket and remove the old fuel filter.
5. Install the new fuel filter. Ensure that the new filter is installed in the same direction as the old filter, then use the wrench to tighten the mounting bracket.
6. Replace the gasket. The rubber gasket located between the fuel filter and the fuel line may be damaged or worn. If so, replace the old gasket with a new one.
7. Reconnect the fuel line. Push the fuel line back into the fuel filter and use the screwdriver to snap the fuel line clamp back into place.
8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Once you have reconnected the fuel line, start the engine and check for any signs of leaks. Tighten any connections as necessary.
Post-2000 Buick LeSabre:
1. Locate the fuel filter. Post-2000 models have the fuel filter located in the engine compartment, mounted on the firewall near the passenger side strut tower.
2. Gather your tools. You will need a screwdriver, a wrench, a catch pan, a fuel line disconnect tool, a new fuel filter, and a replacement rubber gasket.
3. Relieve the fuel pressure. Start the vehicle and let it idle for a few minutes to build fuel pressure. Turn off the engine, then use the screwdriver to pry off the fuel line quick-connect fitting on the fuel filter. Fuel will leak out, so position a catch pan underneath the connection to collect the fuel.
Place the catch pan underneath to collect any remaining fuel, then push the fuel line back into the fuel filter and snap the quick-connect fitting back into place.
8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Once you have reconnected the fuel line, start the engine and check for any signs of leaks. Tighten any connections as necessary.
