Parts:
* New distributor
* Spark plugs
* Spark plug wires
* Distributor cap
* Rotor
1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap.
3. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt.
4. Remove the distributor cap and pull out the rotor.
5. Mark the position of the rotor on the distributor housing and the engine block. This will help you to reinstall the new distributor in the correct position.
6. Remove the distributor from the engine. Be careful not to drop the distributor gear into the oil pan.
7. Install the new distributor, aligning it with the marks that you made in the previous step.
8. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
9. Connect the spark plug wires to the new distributor cap.
10. Install the new distributor cap and rotor.
11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
12. Start the engine and check the timing with a timing light.
13. Test drive the vehicle.
Tips:
- If the engine does not start after you install the new distributor, recheck the timing and verify that the spark plug wires are connected in the correct order.
- When reinstalling the distributor, make sure that the rotor is pointing toward the number one spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap.
