Materials:
- Replacement headlight bulb compatible with your vehicle (Refer to your owner’s manual for specific bulb type)
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Flat-blade screwdriver (optional)
Instructions:
1. Turn Off Headlights: Make sure the headlights are turned off and the vehicle is parked with the parking brake engaged.
2. Open Hood: Locate and release the hood release lever typically found inside your vehicle near the driver's seat. Open the hood fully and secure it with the support rod.
3. Locate Headlight Assembly: Identify the headlight assembly behind which you need to replace the bulb. It's usually located at the front of the engine bay, behind the clear plastic cover.
4. Remove Plastic Cover: Some Civic models might have a plastic cover over the headlight assembly. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws or fasteners holding the plastic cover in place and set it aside.
5. Remove Bulb Cover: On the back side of the headlight assembly, you'll find a cover secured by one or more Phillips-head screws or bolts. Remove the screws or bolts to access the headlight bulb.
6. Disconnect Electrical Connector: Once the bulb cover is off, locate the electrical connector attached to the headlight bulb. Press the release tab or squeeze the connector to disconnect it from the bulb.
7. Remove Old Bulb: Gently twist the headlight bulb counterclockwise (lefty loosey) to loosen and remove it from its socket.
8. Install New Bulb: Align the new headlight bulb with the socket and gently twist clockwise (righty tighty) until it’s securely in place.
9. Reconnect Connector: Plug the electrical connector back onto the new headlight bulb.
10. Replace the Bulb Cover: Reattach the headlight bulb cover on the back of the headlight assembly. Make sure it's properly secured with screws or bolts.
11. Replace Plastic Cover: If there was a plastic cover over the headlight assembly, put it back in place and secure it with screws or fasteners.
12. Repeat for Other Headlight (if needed): If replacing both headlight bulbs, repeat steps 3 to 11 on the other side of your vehicle.
13. Test the Headlights: Start the car and turn on the headlights to verify that both new bulbs are working correctly.
14. Close Hood: Make sure the hood is properly latched and closed before driving.
Note: The steps mentioned are general guidelines. Specific procedures may vary slightly for different trim levels or model years. Always refer to your owner's manual or consult a reliable auto repair manual or online resource for specific instructions for your vehicle. If you're uncomfortable performing this task, consider seeking assistance from a qualified auto mechanic.
