1. Preparation
- Gather the necessary tools, including a new hydraulic filter, a wrench, and a drip pan.
- Ensure that the tractor is on level ground and the engine is turned off.
- Allow sufficient time for the hydraulic system to cool down, especially if it has been recently operated.
2. Locate the Hydraulic Filter
- The hydraulic filter on the Massey Ferguson 2600 tractor is typically located on the left side of the tractor, near the rear axle.
- Look for a cylindrical-shaped housing with the words "Hydraulic Filter" or a similar label.
3. Drain the Hydraulic System
- Place the drip pan below the hydraulic filter housing.
- Loosen the drain plug or valve located at the bottom of the filter housing to drain the hydraulic oil.
- Allow the oil to drain completely.
4. Remove the Old Filter
- Once the hydraulic oil has drained, use the wrench to loosen and remove the hydraulic filter.
- Be careful not to spill any remaining oil.
5. Clean the Filter Housing
- Wipe the inside of the filter housing to remove any dirt or debris.
- Ensure the housing is clean before installing the new filter.
6. Install the New Filter

- Apply a thin layer of new hydraulic oil to the gasket or sealing surface of the filter.

- Use the wrench to tighten the filter until it is secure, but do not over-tighten.
7. Refill the Hydraulic System
- Remove the cap or plug from the hydraulic oil reservoir.
- Use a funnel to add the recommended amount of new hydraulic oil to the reservoir.
- Refer to the tractor's owner's manual for the specific oil type and capacity requirements.
8. Verify and Check
- Look under the tractor for leaks that might happen in hoses or filter housing.
- Use the hydraulic lever to cycle the hydraulic system several times to ensure proper flow and operation.
- Check the hydraulic oil level and add more if necessary.
9. Clean Up
- Dispose of the old hydraulic oil and filter in an environmentally friendly manner.
- Clean up any spilled oil from the tractor and surrounding area.
